**Chennai, [Date]** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday criticized Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, accusing him of unjustified complaints despite increased central funding for the state. Addressing a public gathering, Modi claimed that the central government’s allocation for Tamil Nadu’s development since 2014 has tripled compared to the previous UPA government, in which the DMK was a part. He cited a seven-fold increase in Tamil Nadu’s railway budget as further evidence.
Modi specifically targeted Stalin’s requests for central funds, suggesting the chief minister’s complaints are unfounded. He pointed to the significant investments in infrastructure projects and social welfare schemes, including the construction of 1.2 million houses and provision of piped water connections to over 11 million households in the state.
The Prime Minister also took a jab at Stalin’s use of English in official correspondence with the central government, questioning the CM’s commitment to Tamil pride. “These ministers from Tamil Nadu talk about pride in their language but always write letters to me and sign off in English,” Modi remarked.
This latest exchange escalates the ongoing tension between the BJP-led central government and the DMK-led state government. The disagreement centers around several issues, including the implementation of the three-language policy under the National Education Policy 2020, with Stalin alleging that the policy is an attempt to impose Hindi and suppress Tamil. The allocation of education funds and the handling of issues like the detention of Tamil fishermen by the Sri Lankan navy are also points of contention.
