CHARLESTON, SC – Top-seeded American Jessica Pegula overcame a tough challenge from defending champion Danielle Collins to advance to the semifinals of the WTA 500 Charleston Open. Pegula, ranked world No. 4, dropped the first set 6-1 but fought back to win the next two 6-3, 6-0, securing a hard-fought victory over her compatriot. She will face ninth-seeded Ekaterina Alexandrova of Russia in the next round. Alexandrova earned her semifinal berth with a straight-sets win over China’s third-seeded Qinwen Zheng, 6-1, 6-4.
