Mon Apr 07 15:26:34 UTC 2025: ## CPI(M) Leader Defends Chief Minister’s Daughter in Fraud Case
**Thiruvananthapuram, April 7, 2025** – Newly elected CPI(M) General Secretary M.A. Baby has vehemently defended Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s daughter, T. Veena, against allegations of receiving illegal payments. Veena is implicated in a case investigated by the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) involving alleged payments from a private mining company.
Baby asserted that the case against Veena is politically motivated, designed to damage the CPI(M) and Chief Minister Vijayan. He claimed the investigation is anti-democratic and that the SFIO’s focus on Veena’s familial connection to the Chief Minister is evidence of this. He questioned what illegal benefits the mining company received from the Kerala government in exchange for the payments.
Reports suggest the Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs has approved prosecution proceedings against Veena for allegedly receiving ₹2.70 crore without providing services. While neither Veena nor the Chief Minister has publicly commented on these reports, Baby’s strong defense comes amidst opposition calls for Vijayan’s resignation. Baby characterized the allegations as a fabricated attempt to attack the CPI(M) leadership by targeting Vijayan through his daughter.
