Mon Apr 07 15:19:45 UTC 2025: ## Vijayawada Hit by Heavy Rainfall as Andhra Pradesh Braces for Week of Showers
**Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh –** Heavy rain lashed Vijayawada on Monday evening, following a day of 39°C heat, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a statewide rain and thunderstorm warning for the next week (until April 14).
The IMD attributes the change in weather to an upper air cyclonic circulation over the southeast Bay of Bengal, which formed into a low-pressure area on Monday morning. This system is expected to move northwestwards before shifting northwards over the west-central Bay of Bengal by April 8. A trough extending from this circulation to south Tamil Nadu further contributes to the weather pattern.
Light to moderate rain is predicted across the three regions of Andhra Pradesh – North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema. Daytime temperatures are forecast to rise slightly before falling.
Several areas already experienced rainfall, with Nagulavaram in Palnadu district receiving the highest amount at 30 mm. Other areas reporting significant rainfall include SRM University (Mangalagiri, 24 mm), Rachapanukulu (Alluri Sitarama Raju district, 21 mm), and Tadepalli (Guntur, 19 mm).
The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority has advised farmers to take precautions due to the potential for thunderstorms, gusty winds, and lightning.
