Sun Apr 06 17:08:39 UTC 2025: ## Kerala’s CPI(M) Influence Grows at Party Congress

**Madurai, April 6, 2025** – The 24th Party Congress of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) concluded in Madurai on Sunday, highlighting the significant influence of Kerala within the party. Kerala accounted for approximately 54% of the CPI(M)’s national membership, leading to increased representation in the party’s Central Committee (CC), its highest decision-making body.

M.A. Baby was elected the new general secretary. Several prominent Keralite leaders retained their positions in the CC, including Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who received an exemption from the age limit, along with E.P. Jayarajan, T.M. Thomas Isaac, K.K. Shailaja, and others. Vijoo Krishnan, a key figure in recent farmers’ protests, was elected to the Polit Bureau. Several new Keralite members were also elected to the CC.

While some prominent figures, including A.K. Balan, did not secure re-election, speculation surrounding other potential additions to the CC proved unfounded. Rumors of E.P. Jayarajan’s potential promotion to the Polit Bureau also failed to materialize. The congress demonstrated Kerala’s continued strong presence and influence within the CPI(M)’s national leadership.
