**New Delhi, April 7, 2025** – A significant heatwave is sweeping across India, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue alerts for several states. Delhi is under a yellow alert for Monday and Tuesday, with temperatures expected to rise significantly. Gujarat is facing the most severe conditions, with a red alert issued for Monday and an orange alert extending through April 10th. The Saurashtra and Kutch regions are experiencing particularly intense heat, with Kandla recording a high of 44°C on Sunday.

The IMD reports that nearly 21 cities across five states have already recorded temperatures exceeding 42°C. Further heatwave conditions are predicted for several regions including Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, West Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and parts of Rajasthan, Odisha, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Rajasthan’s Barmer broke records on Sunday, reaching 45.6°C – the highest temperature ever recorded in the first week of April for that location.

Rajasthan is under an orange alert for April 7th and 8th, with a yellow alert for the following two days. While the IMD predicts isolated heatwave conditions in Himachal Pradesh on Monday and in Haryana and Chandigarh until April 10th, Delhi’s air quality remains a concern, with several monitoring stations recording unhealthy AQI levels.
