Mon Apr 07 14:04:19 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Sizzles: City Records Highest Temperature of Season at 40.2°C

**New Delhi, April 7, 2025** – Delhi sweltered under its highest temperature of the season today, reaching a scorching 40.2 degrees Celsius at Safdarjung, 5.1 degrees above the normal for this time of year. This marks the onset of a heatwave predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for the coming days.

The IMD defines a heatwave for the plains as a maximum temperature exceeding 40°C and at least 4.5 degrees above normal. Delhi is expected to experience heatwave conditions for the next three days. However, some relief is in sight. A western disturbance is anticipated to influence the Himalayan region starting tomorrow night, bringing a drop in temperatures there first, followed by Punjab and Haryana within three days. This was confirmed by IMD Scientist Dr. Naresh Kumar.

While today’s maximum temperatures across most of Delhi ranged from 38°C to 39°C, with minimum temperatures between 19°C and 23°C, the IMD notes that maximum temperatures have been consistently 2-4 degrees above normal in several areas. The weather department has reported little change in the past 24 hours, with only slight increases in maximum temperatures.
