**Chennai, April 7, 2025** – Two men were arrested in Chennai early Monday morning after a sophisticated home security system thwarted their burglary attempt. The suspects, identified as 65-year-old D. Kamalakannan of Pallavaram and 57-year-old Philip alias Arif Philip of Tirupattur, were apprehended by police responding to an intruder alert.
R. Venkataramanan, an IT consultant, and his wife were vacationing in the Netherlands when their home security system detected intruders at 1:30 a.m. Mr. Venkataramanan immediately contacted his neighbor, who then alerted the police control room. A nearby patrol team swiftly responded.
Upon arrival, police found the suspects attempting to flee over the compound wall. The Ashok Nagar police arrested the pair and recovered stolen goods including gold jewelry, silver articles, US and Indian currency, and five metal statues.
Kamalakannan has a significant criminal history with 70 prior burglary charges, while Philip has 30. The police also revealed the duo had burglarized an auditor’s office the previous night.
