AMARAVATI, April 7, 2025 – The Central Government has released over ₹4,200 crore to Andhra Pradesh for the development of the Amaravati capital city. This follows the first disbursement of $205 million from the World Bank, part of a combined $1.6 billion commitment from the World Bank and Asian Development Bank (ADB) for Phase I of the project. The Centre has also committed ₹1,400 crore, bringing the total central contribution to ₹15,000 crore for Phase I.
A senior official stated that the released funds represent a 25% “Mobilisation Advance” from the Centre’s total commitment. The ADB has also reportedly disbursed a similar amount, though the exact figure remains unconfirmed. Further installments will be released upon demonstration of progress by the state government. The official anticipates a delay of at least six months before the next tranche is disbursed.
Concerns regarding environmental and livelihood issues raised with the World Bank have been addressed. A joint World Bank and ADB delegation recently visited Amaravati and expressed satisfaction following an inquiry.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand recently announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will relaunch the Amaravati project in April, signifying the resumption of works valued at approximately ₹1 lakh crore. The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), part of the World Bank, is a key funder of the project. The Department of Economic Affairs is the official borrower, while the Andhra Pradesh Capital Regional Development Authority is the implementing agency.
