Mon Apr 07 14:06:24 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu Braces for Brief Rainfall, Then Return to Scorching Heat

**Chennai, April 7, 2025** – A low-pressure area forming over the Bay of Bengal is expected to bring scattered rainfall to Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, with some districts potentially experiencing heavy downpours. However, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai predicts a swift return to scorching weather from Wednesday as the system weakens and moves away.

The RMC reports that the low-pressure area will initially move northwest before shifting north over the west-central Bay of Bengal. A trough extending from the system to south Tamil Nadu will influence cloud cover and rainfall. While light to moderate rainfall is anticipated in several areas, five districts, including Thanjavur and Nagapattinam, face a higher risk of isolated heavy rainfall on Tuesday. After Tuesday, only isolated rainfall is predicted.

Scientist-D B. Geetha of the RMC explained that while the system might bring some cloud cover to the coastal region, the prevailing northerly and northwesterly winds will continue to bring hot, dry air. The movement of the low-pressure area is anticipated to increase maximum temperatures across the state, potentially triggering northwesterly winds from Telangana. Despite the brief spell of rain, Tamil Nadu has already received surplus rainfall this season, since March 1st, according to Geetha.

Monday saw warm temperatures across the state, with Vellore recording the highest at 38.6 degrees Celsius. Chennai is expected to see a maximum temperature of 35-36 degrees Celsius and light rainfall on Tuesday.
