**Hyderabad, April 7, 2025** – A weekend drunk-driving crackdown by the Cyberabad Traffic Police resulted in 284 arrests across key areas of the commissionerate. The majority of offenders (248) were two-wheeler drivers, with nine three-wheeler and 27 four-wheeler drivers also apprehended. No heavy vehicle drivers were caught.
Miyapur recorded the highest number of cases (53), while Kukatpally and RC Puram reported none. All offenders were male, with the largest group (110) falling within the 31-40 age bracket, followed by the 21-30 age group (97).
Blood alcohol concentration (BAC) levels varied significantly. 112 motorists registered BAC levels between 51-100 mg/100ml, 58 between 101-150 mg/100ml, and 21 between 201-300 mg/100ml. Alarmingly, 12 individuals had BAC levels exceeding 500 mg/100ml.
Police emphasized that those causing fatal accidents while driving under the influence will face prosecution under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), carrying a potential 10-year prison sentence and fine. All arrested individuals will appear in court.
