**Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh:** A Gwalior man, Vishal Batra, and his 70-year-old mother, Sarla Batra, are living in fear after a violent attack by his wife’s family. The incident, captured on CCTV footage, shows Neelika Batra, Vishal’s wife, brutally assaulting her own mother-in-law while her father and brother beat Vishal. The attack, stemming from a dispute over sending Sarla to an old-age home, has left the family terrified, particularly in light of the recent gruesome Meerut murder case.
The assault unfolded on April 1st when Neelika’s father, Surendra Kohli, and brother, Nanak Kohli, along with other men, stormed the Batras’ Gwalior home. The video shows Surendra slapping Vishal, sparking a brawl. Neelika then joined the attack, dragging her mother-in-law by the hair and punching her. Their young son witnessed the entire incident. The violence spilled onto the streets, where Vishal was further assaulted before neighbors intervened.
Sarla Batra sustained injuries, including a swollen eye. Vishal alleges his in-laws subsequently took control of his house, leaving him and his mother homeless and threatened with further violence, including death threats from his brother-in-law at the police station. He further claims his wife threatened to file false charges against him and his mother.
Vishal has filed a police complaint, stating that the initial response was slow, but after contacting the Superintendent of Police’s office, an FIR was filed and the DSP assured him of swift action. Neelika and her father have yet to comment publicly on the incident. The case highlights the escalating domestic violence and the fear gripping families in the wake of similar high-profile crimes.
