**New Delhi, April 6, 2025** – U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, his wife Usha, and their children will visit India from April 21-24, sources confirmed. The trip, initially postponed several times, includes a planned “heritage tour” of the “Golden Triangle” (Delhi, Jaipur, and Agra) for the Vance family, reflecting Mrs. Vance’s South Indian heritage.
While the visit coincides with a trip by U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, who will discuss the successor to the iCET initiative (now TRUST) with Indian NSA Ajit Doval, Mr. Vance’s schedule is primarily private. He is expected to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will host a dinner for the Vance family. Mr. Waltz will also participate in a speaking engagement at the Indo-U.S. Forum.
These visits, following a recent trip by the U.S. Director of National Intelligence and preceding a visit by Defence Minister Peter Hegseth, are seen as paving the way for a visit by U.S. President Donald Trump later this year for the Quad Summit and the signing of a bilateral trade agreement. The visits also occur amidst recently implemented U.S. reciprocal tariffs on Indian goods, providing an opportunity for India to address this issue.
Mr. Vance’s trip follows previous controversial foreign visits, including trips to Europe and Greenland, where his comments on freedom of speech and criticisms of Denmark drew attention. The dates for the India visit remain subject to slight adjustments based on Prime Minister Modi’s schedule, which includes a trip to Saudi Arabia from April 22-24.
