Sun Apr 06 09:18:27 UTC 2025: ## Stalin Urges Modi to Guarantee Southern States’ Parliamentary Representation Amidst Delimitation Concerns

**UDHAGAMANDALAM, Tamil Nadu –** Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to assure southern states that the upcoming delimitation exercise will not reduce their parliamentary representation. During a visit to Udhagamandalam on Sunday, where he inaugurated a new government medical college and hospital, along with 1,703 other completed government projects, Mr. Stalin expressed concerns that states which have successfully controlled population growth could be unfairly disadvantaged.

He emphasized that this issue extends beyond mere seat reduction, impacting the rights and future well-being of the southern states. Mr. Stalin stated that Tamil Nadu was the first state to voice opposition to what he termed a “grand conspiracy” to reduce the state’s parliamentary seats during the delimitation process.

A joint action committee, comprising 22 political parties from seven states, has been formed to address these concerns. The committee has already sent a letter to Prime Minister Modi requesting a meeting to discuss the matter. Mr. Stalin expressed his expectation that the Prime Minister will soon schedule such a meeting. While unable to attend Prime Minister Modi’s inauguration of India’s first vertical lift sea bridge in Rameswaram, Mr. Stalin sent two ministers to represent him. He also highlighted the DMK’s efforts to promote social justice and equitable development nationwide.
