**New Delhi, April 6, 2025** – BMW Group India remains optimistic about its electric vehicle (EV) prospects in India, even with Tesla’s anticipated market entry. Vikram Pawah, President & CEO of BMW Group India, stated that increased competition will ultimately benefit the overall EV market growth.
BMW Group India sold 1,249 electric vehicles in 2024 across its BMW and MINI brands, exceeding 646 units in the first quarter of 2025 alone. This represents 17% of their total sales, surpassing their initial target of 15% for 2025. The company anticipates maintaining this momentum, even with the launch of the popular X3 model (with internal combustion engine) in the second quarter.
Globally, BMW Group reported strong EV sales in 2024, selling 426,594 fully-electric vehicles, a 13.5% increase year-on-year. Both BMW and MINI brands achieved double-digit growth in BEV sales.
Pawah highlighted BMW’s global success in coexisting with Tesla in other markets and expressed confidence in maintaining growth in India. He emphasized that the company is on track to meet, and potentially exceed, its 15% EV sales target for 2025. Tesla’s recent recruitment drive in India further suggests its imminent entry into the market.
