TIRUCHI, April 6, 2025 – Patients and visitors at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) in Tiruchi are demanding improved traffic management due to safety concerns. The hospital, which sees over 3,000 people daily, experiences significant congestion on EVR Road, particularly hindering ambulance access. The lack of functioning traffic signals and disregard for pedestrian safety by drivers have led to hazardous conditions for those crossing the road, especially those accessing free food distribution.

Local residents, such as P. Elumalai of Perambalur, highlighted the dangerous situation, urging for immediate deployment of traffic personnel and improved regulation. Road safety activist P. Ayyarappan echoed these concerns, emphasizing the need for repair of the malfunctioning overhead traffic signal.

Responding to these concerns, a senior police officer confirmed plans to replace the faulty traffic signals and increase police presence to ensure pedestrian safety. The improvements aim to alleviate the dangerous traffic conditions and ensure safe passage for patients, visitors, and emergency vehicles.
