**Mount Maunganui, New Zealand:** The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) strongly condemned the alleged verbal abuse directed at Pakistani players by a group of Afghan spectators during the third and final One Day International (ODI) against New Zealand on Saturday. The incident led to the ejection of two Afghan spectators from the ground.
The match, which Pakistan lost by 43 runs, concluded a 0-3 ODI series whitewash following a 1-4 loss in the preceding T20 series. Tensions escalated when anti-Pakistan slogans were chanted, prompting cricketer Khushdil Shah to intervene. The PCB statement alleges that the Afghan spectators responded with further inappropriate language in Pashto. Social media images subsequently circulated showing Shah being restrained by security as he confronted the fans.
This is not the first instance of clashes between Pakistani and Afghan spectators. The PCB referenced a previous incident at the 2023 World Cup where Afghan player Ibrahim Zadran used the presentation ceremony to protest the deportation of Afghan nationals from Pakistan.
Meanwhile, opener Imam-ul-Haq, who retired hurt after being struck in the face by a stray throw from a New Zealand fielder, underwent a CT scan and was diagnosed with a mild concussion. He has since been declared fit to travel back to Pakistan.
