**Tiruchi, April 6, 2025** – The Tiruchi Railway Division has launched an investigation into an incident where a passenger train (16833) from Mayiladuthurai Junction bypassed the Papanasam railway station on Saturday. The Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) train, operating without an assistant loco pilot, failed to stop at the station, leaving waiting passengers surprised.
According to sources within the division, the loco pilot, despite familiarity with the route, overlooked the scheduled stop. Only after being alerted by the guard did the pilot apply emergency brakes approximately 100 meters past the station and then reversed the train back to Papanasam.
Both the loco pilot and guard have been questioned regarding the incident. A comprehensive report is expected to be submitted to the Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi, following the completion of the inquiry.
