**RAMESWARAM, TAMIL NADU** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the newly constructed Pamban Bridge in Ramanathapuram district, Tamil Nadu, on Sunday. The ₹535 crore bridge replaces the old structure connecting Rameswaram island to the mainland.
A key figure in the bridge’s construction was 28-year-old Venkat Chakrathir, a young engineer from BhoopalaPuram village in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh. Chakrathir, who served as the in-charge engineer for the project, shared his experiences with *News Today*, highlighting the dedication and hard work of hundreds of engineers and workers who toiled day and night for over a year to complete the project.
The new bridge incorporates a vertical lift bridge technology, a first of its kind in India. While the technology was sourced from Spain, all other materials were domestically procured. Chakrathir expressed immense pride and satisfaction in the completion of this challenging project, which he described as a testament to the team’s unwavering commitment.
