**Tirunelveli, April 6, 2025** – The selfless act of a family grieving the loss of their daughter has given the gift of life to others. Nineteen-year-old M. Kalaiselvi, a college student from Mavadi, Tirunelveli district, tragically died after an accidental fall from her house terrace on April 1st.
Kalaiselvi, who was reportedly on a phone call when the accident occurred, sustained severe injuries. After initial treatment at a private hospital, she was transferred to Tirunelveli Medical College and Hospital (TVMCH)’s Critical Care Unit on April 2nd. Despite receiving intensive care, she was declared brain dead on April 5th.
In a testament to their compassion, Kalaiselvi’s family made the courageous decision to donate her organs. Her liver was sent to Kauvery Hospital in Tiruchi, and her right kidney to Apollo Hospitals in Tiruchi. Her left kidney and corneas remained at TVMCH for transplantation.
Dean of TVMCH, Revathi Balan, Hospital Superintendent Balasubramanian, and the medical staff paid their respects to Kalaiselvi. This tragic event highlights the profound impact of organ donation and the generosity of grieving families in the face of immense loss.
