Sun Apr 06 15:21:17 UTC 2025: ## Mangaluru MP Fights to Keep Air India Express Crew Base

**Mangaluru, Karnataka, April 6, 2025** – Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta is urging the Union Minister of Civil Aviation to intervene and prevent the closure of the Air India Express crew base in Mangaluru. In a letter delivered Friday to Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, Capt. Chowta highlighted the significant negative impact the closure would have on over 100 crew members, ancillary workers, and regional travelers.

The MP emphasized the base’s economic importance, citing its high efficiency and over 1,300 tonnes of annual cargo handling. He argued that a local crew base ensures quicker turnaround times and improves passenger experience, particularly for those in coastal Karnataka, Malnad, and North Kerala. Furthermore, Capt. Chowta advocated for a decentralized approach to crew bases to enhance operational efficiency within India’s expanding aviation sector.

Capt. Chowta also used social media to announce that he had discussed airport expansion and security matters with the Minister, reporting that land acquisition orders are imminent. The Mangaluru International Airport, operational since 1951, plays a crucial role in connecting educational institutions, industries, and the IT sector, the MP stated. He stressed the importance of maintaining the crew base to support seamless connectivity for students and professionals.
