Sun Apr 06 01:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Former Voice of March Madness Cheers on Alma Mater from the Stands

**San Antonio, TX** – Jim Nantz, the legendary voice of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament for over three decades, will be attending this year’s Final Four not as a broadcaster, but as a devoted fan. The University of Houston alumnus will be cheering on his Cougars as they face Duke in the Alamodome on Saturday.

Nantz, who still calls NFL games and The Masters for CBS, has been a visible supporter of Houston throughout their tournament run. He was present for their Elite Eight victory and even appeared in a team photo at the request of Coach Kelvin Sampson. His passion for the Cougars stems from his time as a student-athlete at the university, where he earned a degree in radio/television in 1981 and played golf. He credits his time at Houston, particularly his introduction to legendary coach Guy Lewis through his golf coach, as the springboard for his broadcasting career.

“I’m so stoked about this weekend,” Nantz said on The Dan Patrick Show. “I have it with all things the University of Houston… I am absolutely in love with this team. Kelvin Sampson…he’s just incredible.”

A Houston victory would send them to the national championship game for the first time since 1984. Nantz’s presence adds a unique element to the Final Four, highlighting the enduring connection between a broadcasting icon and his alma mater. He called his final Final Four broadcast last year, but this year he’s trading his microphone for a seat in the stands, decked out in red and white.
