Sat Apr 05 15:40:48 UTC 2025: ## Allied Military Chiefs Visit Kyiv Amidst Deadly Russian Strike

**Kyiv, Ukraine –** Top military officials from France and Britain visited Kyiv this week to solidify their commitment to Ukraine’s defense, both during the ongoing conflict and in the post-war period. The visit by French Chief of Defence Staff General Thierry Burkhard and British Chief of the Defence Staff Admiral Tony Radakin followed a deadly Russian missile strike on President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s hometown of Kryvyi Rig, which killed at least 18 people, including nine children.

The high-level delegation met with President Zelenskyy, Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrsky, and Defence Minister Rustem Umerov. Discussions focused on strengthening the Ukrainian army, providing comprehensive air defense, and establishing a long-term strategy for post-conflict reconstruction and military transformation. General Burkhard emphasized the need for a lasting peace and the importance of an international coalition to guarantee Ukraine’s security. President Zelenskyy described the meetings as “fundamental,” highlighting discussions on military presence across land, sea, and air.

The visit comes as French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer lead efforts to create a reassurance force for Ukraine after the war ends. Despite these efforts, Ukraine maintains that Russia shows no desire for a ceasefire. The timing of the visit, coinciding with the devastating missile strike, underscored the urgency of the situation and the continued need for strong international support for Ukraine.
