Sun Apr 06 12:35:12 UTC 2025: ## Congress Stages Statewide Protests Against Modi’s Tamil Nadu Visit

**TIRUCHI, April 6, 2025** – The Tamil Nadu Congress party launched widespread protests across several central districts on Sunday, vehemently opposing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state. The demonstrations, marked by black flag displays and slogan-shouting, targeted the Prime Minister’s visit to Rameswaram, which Congress leaders deemed politically insensitive given what they described as the Centre’s neglect of Tamil Nadu over the past decade.

Key grievances aired by protesters included the recently passed Wakf Board Amendment Bill, criticized for allegedly undermining minority rights, and broader accusations of inadequate policy support and insufficient funds allocated to the state by the central government.

Protests took various forms. In Tiruchi, a demonstration was held outside the BSNL office, led by City District Congress president L. Rex. A balloon protest was simultaneously organized by the North District Congress unit. Similar demonstrations occurred in Thanjavur (near the Head Post Office and in Keelavasal), Mayiladuthurai (in front of the Head Post Office), and Nagapattinam (featuring a symbolic boat protest and an earlier demonstration outside the Income Tax Office, leading to some arrests). In all locations, Congress members voiced their condemnation of central government policies and demanded increased support for Tamil Nadu.
