Sun Apr 06 03:13:28 UTC 2025: ## Maharashtra Mosque Blast: Two Arrested, UAPA Charges Filed

**Mumbai, April 6, 2025** – Two men have been arrested and charged under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for a bomb blast at a mosque in Maharashtra’s Beed district. The incident occurred on March 30th, the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr, in the village of Ardha Masla.

While no injuries were reported, the explosion, caused by gelatin sticks, damaged the mosque’s interior. Police initially arrested Vijay Rama Gavhane (22) and Shriram Ashok Sagde (24) under various sections of the BNS, related to damaging places of worship and promoting religious enmity. However, the investigation led to the addition of UAPA charges, specifically sections related to terrorist acts and conspiracy. The charges carry a significant penalty and make securing bail extremely difficult.

The blast allegedly followed an altercation between groups during a procession. Police are currently holding the suspects in custody. The application of the UAPA has sparked debate, highlighting the seriousness with which authorities are treating the incident.
