Sat Apr 05 23:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Lord Rama’s Birth Anniversary Celebrated with Fervour
**Hyderabad, India** – The birth anniversary of Lord Rama, Sri Rama Navami, was celebrated with great enthusiasm across India today. The day marks the birth of Lord Rama, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu, in Treta Yuga. According to Hindu scriptures, Rama was born at noon on Chaitra Shukla Navami (the ninth day of the bright fortnight in the month of Chaitra), a Thursday, under the Punarvasu Nakshatra in the Karkataka Lagna. This auspicious moment is considered the Abhijit Muhurta, an extremely opportune time.
The celebrations were particularly vibrant in Bhadrachalam, Telangana, where the Sri Sita Rama Kalyana Mahotsavam (wedding ceremony of Lord Rama and Sita) was conducted with traditional grandeur. Thousands of devotees flocked to witness the event. The day also commemorates Rama’s coronation in Ayodhya alongside Sita, and their marriage, both believed to have occurred on Chaitra Shukla Navami.
The legend surrounding Rama’s birth involves King Dasharatha, who performed a Putra Kameshti Yagna to obtain sons after being childless. The Yagna resulted in a vessel of payasam (sweet rice pudding) which was divided among Dasharatha’s three wives, Kausalya, Sumitra, and Kaikeyi, leading to the birth of Rama, Bharata, Lakshmana, and Shatrughna.
Rama’s life, particularly his 14-year exile due to Kaikeyi’s boon, is a testament to his adherence to dharma (righteousness). He is revered as the ideal king and is referred to by various names like Raghu Rama, Raghu Natha, Raghu Pati, and Raghavendra, reflecting his lineage from King Raghu.
Devotees celebrated by performing small-scale kalyana utsavams (wedding ceremonies) for miniature Sita-Rama idols, culminating in processions through the streets. The festival is a significant part of Chaitra Navratri (nine nights of celebrations in Chaitra). The unique preparation of a spicy drink called Panakam is also a popular aspect of the festivities. The chanting of “Rama Nama” is believed to have spiritual cleansing properties.
Sri Rama Navami is a time of religious devotion and celebration, reinforcing the enduring legacy of Lord Rama and his teachings.
