**Thiruvananthapuram, April 4, 2025** – Thiruvananthapuram city was caught off guard Friday evening by a sudden downpour accompanied by strong winds and lightning. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Wayanad districts for Saturday, warning of isolated heavy rainfall.

The unexpected summer showers are attributed to cyclonic circulations over south Tamil Nadu and the south Andaman Islands. The IMD predicts heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning in isolated areas across Kerala until April 6th due to these systems and the convergence of moist winds from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. The heavy rain is expected to continue for several more days.
