**Thrissur, Kerala, April 5, 2025** – Thrissur district in Kerala has achieved the remarkable feat of becoming a waste-free district, according to a declaration made by the Minister for Revenue and Housing, K. Rajan. The declaration, made at a ceremony in Thrissur Town Hall, highlights the collaborative efforts of numerous organizations and individuals in eliminating garbage across all sectors of the district.

The initiative encompassed schools, colleges, Kudumbashree units, neighborhood groups, tourist destinations, institutions, towns, public spaces, and markets. A total of 6,473 institutions, 25,977 neighborhood groups, and numerous other entities participated in the drive. The ceremony recognized outstanding contributions from various panchayats, municipalities, schools, colleges, and institutions.

Minister Rajan lauded the tireless work involved and emphasized the ongoing need for collective responsibility in maintaining a waste-free environment. He connected the achievement with Kerala’s broader goal of becoming a poverty-free state, stating that a waste-free Kerala is a sustainable goal requiring continued communal efforts.

District Collector Arjun Pandian delivered the keynote address at the ceremony, presided over by District Panchayat President V.S. Prince. The Assistant Director of the Local Self-Governments department, Bindu Parameswaran, led a cleanliness pledge. The event celebrated Thrissur’s transformation into a “green beacon of environmental excellence.”
