Sat Apr 05 15:08:07 UTC 2025: ## Erode Congress Seeks Daily Service for Coimbatore-Rameswaram Express
**ERODE, April 5, 2025** – The Minority Wing of the Erode Congress Committee has called on the Southern Railway to reinstate daily service for the Coimbatore-Rameswaram Express (Train No. 16618). Currently operating only on Tuesdays from Coimbatore and Wednesdays from Rameswaram, the train’s limited schedule inconveniences both regular passengers and devotees visiting the pilgrimage site of Rameswaram.
K.N. Basha, Vice-President of the Minority Wing and former member of the Zonal Railway Users’ Consultative Committee, sent a letter to the General Manager of Southern Railway highlighting the issue. While construction on the Pamban rail bridge, which began in 2019, limited the train’s route to Ramanathapuram, the bridge’s recent inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 6th is expected to restore service to Rameswaram.
Mr. Basha’s letter urged the railways to capitalize on the bridge’s reopening by increasing the train’s frequency to daily service. He also requested a stop at Kodumudi railway station, a stop previously utilized by devotees travelling to the Magudeswarar Temple. The Congress wing believes that a daily service would significantly benefit the public and the numerous pilgrims visiting Rameswaram.
