Fri Apr 04 18:46:57 UTC 2025: ## CPI(M) Divided Over Vijayan Daughter’s Case Amidst Party Congress
**Madurai, April 5, 2025** – The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] is grappling with internal divisions over the Serious Fraud Investigation Office’s (SFIO) final complaint against Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s daughter, T. Veena, in the Cochin Minerals and Rutile Ltd (CMRL) case. While the party publicly expressed solidarity with Vijayan, differing approaches to handling the case emerged among top leadership.
Polit Bureau coordinator Prakash Karat stated the party would fight the case both politically and legally, viewing it as a BJP attempt to target the Chief Minister. Several Kerala leaders echoed this sentiment, alleging political motivation and conspiracy behind the SFIO’s timing, which coincided with a joint appearance by the Tamil Nadu and Kerala Chief Ministers. Kerala secretary M.V. Govindan criticized the timing, suggesting it aimed to overshadow the party congress.
However, Polit Bureau member Mohammed Salim distanced the party from the case, asserting it was a matter for the individuals involved to resolve legally. He also accused the central government of using investigative agencies for political purposes, citing the Enforcement Directorate’s recent searches at the offices of a film co-producer.
The CPI(M)’s 24th Party Congress concluded with the adoption of a political-tactical line emphasizing the party’s independent strength while advocating for a broader coalition of secular and democratic forces, including the Congress, to counter the “neofascist regime” at the center. The congress also passed resolutions urging a caste census and extensive consultations on delimitation, advocating for a framework preventing any disproportionate advantage to specific regions or states.
