Fri Apr 04 20:06:47 UTC 2025: ## Delhi Private Schools Accused of Massive Fee Hikes After BJP Takes Power
**New Delhi, April 5, 2025** – The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused private schools in Delhi of exorbitant fee increases, ranging from 20% to 82%, following the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) recent election victory. AAP blames the BJP government for the hikes, citing the resurgence of what they term an “education mafia.”
Former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal highlighted the issue on X, sharing a news clipping about fee increases at Delhi Public School, Dwarka. He claimed that under AAP’s 10-year rule, such arbitrary fee hikes were prevented.
However, this claim is disputed by some parents who allege that fee increases have been a consistent problem over the past decade, even during the AAP’s tenure. Aprajita Gautam, president of the Delhi Parents’ Association, stated that numerous complaints regarding fee hikes were filed with the Directorate of Education (DoE) during the AAP’s time in power. She suggests the current lack of a directive from the DoE regarding fee approvals may be contributing to the problem.
The situation has escalated, with parents staging protests outside DPS, Dwarka, after reportedly 50 students were prevented from progressing to higher classes due to unpaid fees. One parent, Praveen Menon, stated that the school has been illegally increasing fees for the past four years, prompting previous protests and even legal action.
While the school principal did not respond to requests for comment, a source at the Education Minister’s office confirmed that complaints have been received and are being investigated. Education Minister Ashish Sood has yet to comment publicly. The situation highlights a contentious issue in Delhi’s education sector, with accusations and counter-accusations flying between the AAP and the BJP.
