Fri Apr 04 01:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Bengaluru Bathed in Unexpected Heavy Rainfall
**Bengaluru, April 3, 2025:** Bengaluru residents, reeling under the scorching summer heat, received a welcome surprise Thursday morning with heavy rainfall across the city. The downpour, accompanied by thunder and lightning, began early in the morning, covering both inner and outer regions. Areas like Peenya, Dasarahalli, and Hesarghatta were among the first to experience the sudden showers.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted thunderstorms and rain earlier in the morning, a prediction that proved accurate. Major areas including Vidhana Soudha, Shivajinagar, HSR Layout, KR Market, Chamarajpet, Basavanagudi, Jayanagar, and ORR experienced significant rainfall.
The IMD issued a yellow alert for Bengaluru, forecasting heavy rain with thunder and lightning throughout the day. The alert also predicted a temperature drop of 3-4 degrees Celsius and strong winds. The minimum temperature is expected to be around 20°C and the maximum around 33°C, with humidity around 54%.
The sudden downpour is attributed to a cyclonic circulation over Kanyakumari and a trough over South Interior Karnataka. A low-pressure area over the Odisha coast has the potential to develop into a cyclone, further contributing to cloudy conditions and the likelihood of thunderstorms and winds gusting up to 40-50 km/h across Karnataka.
The IMD further forecasts continued rain in Bengaluru until at least Monday, with similar weather conditions expected in Kolar, Ramanagara, and Bengaluru Rural districts, including strong winds and thunderstorms on Friday. The unexpected relief from the heatwave is a welcome change for the city.
