Thu Apr 03 14:03:43 UTC 2025: ## Telangana Surpasses ₹1,000 Crore in Property Tax Collection

**Hyderabad, April 3, 2025** – Telangana’s Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) have achieved a significant milestone, exceeding ₹1,000 crore in property tax collection for the first time, reaching a final tally of ₹1,058 crore for the 2024-25 fiscal year. This represents a 15% increase compared to the previous year’s ₹922 crore.

The success is attributed to focused efforts including dedicated teams for property tax collection, special attention from the head office, and the utilization of digital payment systems. While two ULBs, Jammikunta and Huzurabad, achieved 100% collection, 39 others surpassed 80%. However, 11 ULBs, including the municipal corporations of Mahbubnagar and Nizamabad, collected less than 50% of their target. Zaheerabad Municipality had the lowest collection rate at 26.15%, and Jalpally within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) area also lagged behind at 34%.

The state government implemented strategies to improve collection, including individual follow-ups with taxpayers and meetings with underperforming municipal commissioners. Municipal Commissioners were categorized by performance, and support was provided to those lagging. Software glitches were also addressed promptly.

The increased collection also enabled 91 out of 139 municipal bodies to meet or exceed the Finance Commission’s mandate of collecting property tax equivalent to 12.5% of the state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), a significant improvement from the previous year. This achievement is expected to secure greater funding from the Finance Commission.

Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration T.K. Sreedevi expressed confidence in achieving even higher targets in the upcoming financial year (2025-26) with continued focus on underperforming areas and proactive planning.
