Thu Apr 03 09:30:00 UTC 2025: Hyderabad Receives Heavy Rainfall, Causing Flooding and Traffic Disruptions

HYDERABAD, INDIA – Heavy rainfall brought much-needed relief from the recent heatwave in Hyderabad, but also caused significant flooding and traffic disruptions across the city. Areas including Himayatnagar, Koti, Ameerpet, Borabanda, Jubilee Hills, LB Nagar, Hayatnagar, Medchal, Vidyanagar, and Abids experienced moderate to heavy downpours.

The downpour led to several incidents, including a tree falling on a car near Mercury Hotel in Khairatabad. While two women inside the car escaped unharmed, the incident highlights the impact of the heavy rainfall. Numerous roads were flooded, resulting in severe traffic congestion, particularly near Malakpet bridge and Raj Bhavan Road. The Secretariat area was also significantly flooded. Reports indicate that a portion of the Charminar’s minar also suffered minor damage from falling debris. Several trees were uprooted and electricity poles damaged in various locations. The road between Khairatabad and Panjagutta experienced complete traffic standstill.

The highest rainfall was recorded in Narayanapur, Yadadri district, with 9.7 cm. Himayatnagar and Sarurnagar within Hyderabad received 8.8 cm and 8.7 cm of rainfall respectively. Authorities are assessing the full extent of the damage.
