**Chandigarh, April 3, 2025** – The Punjab Cabinet today approved amendments to the state’s Minor Mineral Policy aimed at boosting the supply of raw materials, combating illegal mining, and reducing corruption, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced.
The amendments introduce “Crusher Mining Sites” (CRMS), allowing crusher owners with gravel deposits on their land to obtain mining leases. This is expected to curtail the illegal import of materials from other states and increase the availability of crushed sand and gravel, essential for construction projects.
Furthermore, the creation of “Landowner Mining Sites” (LMS) will empower landowners with sand deposits to apply for mining leases and sell materials at government-regulated prices. This addresses the previous issue of non-operational mining sites due to landowner reluctance to allow mining by unknown parties.
The government expects these changes to lower consumer prices, increase state revenue, and prevent monopolies within the mining sector.
