**Bangkok, Thailand –** Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Bangkok, Thailand on April 3rd, 2025, for a two-day visit to attend the sixth BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) summit. He was greeted warmly by Thai Deputy Prime Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit and enthusiastically welcomed by members of the Indian community.
PM Modi’s visit aims to strengthen ties between India and Thailand, building on shared cultural and historical foundations. He is scheduled to hold talks with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and other Thai leaders. In a statement before his departure, PM Modi emphasized BIMSTEC’s importance for regional development and connectivity, highlighting the strategic location of India’s Northeast within the organization.
Following his engagements in Thailand, PM Modi will embark on a two-day visit to Sri Lanka on April 4th, his first since the election of President Anura Kumara Disanayake. This visit seeks to further the “Fostering Partnerships for a Shared Future” vision established during President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s visit to India last December. The Sri Lankan Foreign Minister, Vijitha Herath, has described the visit as a “great opportunity” for both nations.
The Prime Minister’s trip is expected to enhance bilateral relationships and promote regional cooperation in South Asia.
