FRISCO, TX – The Dallas Cowboys have bolstered their quarterback depth, acquiring Joe Milton from the New England Patriots in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick, the teams announced today. The Patriots will also receive a seventh-round pick in the deal.

Milton, 25, was a sixth-round pick by the Patriots in the 2024 NFL Draft. He impressed during the preseason and saw significant playing time in Week 18 against Buffalo, completing 22 of 29 passes for 241 yards and a touchdown. He also added a rushing touchdown.

The move comes after the Cowboys’ backup quarterback, Cooper Rush, signed with the Baltimore Ravens. With Trey Lance remaining unsigned as a free agent, the Cowboys sought a more experienced backup to Dak Prescott. Will Grier is also currently on the Cowboys’ roster.

The Patriots, meanwhile, recently signed Joshua Dobbs to a two-year contract to back up rookie quarterback Drake Maye. Multiple teams reportedly expressed interest in Milton before the Cowboys secured the deal.
