**THOOTHUKUDI, April 3, 2025** – A 17-year-old first-year student at Bharathiyar Centenary Memorial Government Polytechnic College has accused a lecturer of sexual harassment, sparking protests and a police investigation.
The student, from the Mechanical Department, filed a complaint against the lecturer alleging misconduct. The college principal and the Vishaka committee launched an internal inquiry. Meanwhile, police from the Vilathikulam All Women’s Police Station, acting on the orders of the District Collector K. Elambahavath, are conducting a separate investigation.
Members of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) staged a protest outside the college, demanding the lecturer’s immediate arrest. They criticized the college administration, alleging that instead of addressing the complaint, the victim has been questioned for two days.
Police have confirmed that an investigation is underway and appropriate action will be taken based on its findings.
