**CHENNAI, April 3, 2025** – German motor and fan manufacturer ebm-papst is significantly expanding its presence in India with a ₹340 crore investment in a new manufacturing plant in Chennai. A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Friday, April 4th.

The new facility, spanning 23,000 square meters in its first phase (to be completed by the end of 2026), sits on a 14.2-acre plot. Upon full completion, the plant is expected to employ approximately 700 people. This expansion builds on ebm-papst’s existing Indian operations, which include four sales offices, two manufacturing facilities, and multiple warehouses, currently employing 375 people.

This investment reflects ebm-papst’s “local for local” glocalization strategy, targeting the Asia-Pacific and Middle East & Africa regions. Klaus Geissdoerfer, CEO of ebm-papst Group, highlighted the company’s strong financial performance in 2023-2024, with sales reaching €2.408 billion, and significant investments in R&D (€140.2 million) and sustainability (€9.5 million).

Thomas Nuernberger, Chief Sales Officer and CEO Air Technology APAC & MEA, emphasized the importance of localized production for quicker response times to customer needs. The company’s commitment to India also includes a Global Capability Centre (GCC) established in Chennai in 2023, housing 300 specialists focused on digital solutions for intelligent fan technologies and global processes. Atul Tripathi, Managing Director of ebm-papst India, noted the rapid growth of the GCC and hinted at plans for future expansion.

ebm-papst first entered the Indian market in 1996, commencing local manufacturing in 2005. The company became a fully owned subsidiary in 2010.
