Wed Apr 02 04:39:19 UTC 2025: ## Federal Judge Orders Reinstatement of Legal Aid for Migrant Children

**San Francisco, April 2, 2025** – A federal judge in California has temporarily blocked the Trump administration’s termination of legal aid for tens of thousands of unaccompanied migrant children. US District Judge Araceli Martínez-Olguín issued a temporary restraining order on Tuesday, ordering the restoration of funding.

The order comes in response to a lawsuit filed by eleven legal aid groups who argued that the administration’s March 21st termination of a contract with the Acacia Center for Justice violated a 2008 anti-trafficking law mandating legal counsel for vulnerable children. The groups claim that approximately 26,000 children risk losing their legal representation as a result of the contract termination.

Judge Martínez-Olguín stated that the plaintiffs raised valid concerns regarding the administration’s compliance with the 2008 law. She ruled that maintaining the status quo, including continued funding of legal representation, promotes efficiency and fairness within the immigration system. The temporary restraining order will remain in effect until April 16th. The case is expected to continue.
