**KOCHI, KERALA –** Two men drowned in the Edamalayar River, a tributary of the Periyar River, on Tuesday afternoon. Siddique (40) and his nephew, Abu Fayaz (22), were part of a family group of 20 who had gone to the river for a bath. According to Kuttampuzha police, Abu was swept away by a strong current, and Siddique drowned while attempting a rescue. Their bodies were recovered by a Fire and Rescue Services scuba team.
Local authorities have previously warned against entering the water due to dangerous currents and several past drowning incidents. A warning board was in place, but the group reportedly ignored it. The incident occurred near Palavanpady in Kuttampuzha panchayat, in the eastern suburbs of Ernakulam.
