Wed Apr 02 00:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Kiwi Debutant Shatters World Record in ODI Win Over Pakistan

**Napier, New Zealand:** New Zealand secured a resounding victory over Pakistan in the first ODI of their three-match series at McLean Park, Napier, on Saturday. The win, a 344-9 to 275 all out victory, was highlighted by a stunning world record set by New Zealand all-rounder Muhammad Abbas on his debut.

Abbas, born in Lahore, Pakistan, smashed a breathtaking 52 runs off just 24 balls, setting a new world record for the fastest ODI half-century on debut. This eclipsed the previous record held by India’s Krunal Pandya (50 off 26 balls).

New Zealand’s innings was anchored by Mark Chapman’s magnificent 132 off 111 balls, his second ODI century and a career best. A crucial 199-run partnership between Chapman and Daryl Mitchell (76 off 84) resurrected the Kiwi innings after an early wobble. Pakistan’s Akif Javed (2-55) and Irfan Khan (3-51) were the pick of the bowlers for the visitors.

Pakistan’s reply started strongly, with half-centuries from Babar Azam (78) and Salman Ali Agha (58). However, a dramatic collapse saw them lose seven wickets for just 22 runs, ultimately falling short of the target. Nathan Smith claimed 4-60 for New Zealand.

Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan acknowledged the challenging conditions and the impact of the New Zealand bowlers, while New Zealand captain Michael Bracewell praised Abbas’ performance and highlighted the exciting brand of cricket on display. The series continues with the second ODI on Tuesday.
