Wed Apr 02 01:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Election Commission Holds Thousands of Meetings to Address Voter ID Concerns
**New Delhi, April 1, 2025** – The Election Commission of India (ECI) has conducted nearly 5,000 meetings with political parties nationwide to address concerns regarding electoral roll accuracy, including allegations of duplicate voter IDs and manipulation. This unprecedented engagement drive, spanning 25 days and concluding March 31st, involved over 28,000 political party representatives.
The meetings, held at the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO), District Election Officer (DEO), and Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) levels, aimed to resolve pending issues within the existing legal framework. The initiative followed directives from Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and his colleagues, issued after a Chief Electoral Officers’ conference in early March.
The ECI statement highlighted the “structured” nature of these engagements, with 4,719 meetings conducted: 40 by CEOs, 800 by DEOs, and 3,879 by EROs. Action reports have been requested from all state and union territory CEOs for further assessment. Unresolved issues will be directly addressed by the Commission.
The ECI claims the initiative has been well-received by political parties. These concerns were initially raised by the Trinamool Congress, who publicized a list of individuals with identical voter ID numbers, and later echoed by the Congress party, citing alleged manipulation during Maharashtra Assembly elections. Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, has also demanded parliamentary discussion on the matter. The ECI’s actions aim to ensure fair and accurate electoral rolls before any upcoming elections.
