**Washington D.C.** – Planned Parenthood has condemned the Trump administration’s decision to cut federal family planning funding, claiming the move will cause widespread harm and jeopardize access to vital healthcare services for low-income individuals. The organization announced Tuesday that nine of its affiliates have already had their Title X funding withheld.

The cuts, totaling $27.5 million according to the Wall Street Journal, affect a network of over 300 health centers that served over 1.5 million patients in 2023. Services impacted include birth control, cancer screenings, and STI testing. Planned Parenthood did not specify the exact amount of funding halted.

Planned Parenthood President and CEO Alexis McGill Johnson issued a scathing statement, accusing President Trump and Elon Musk – whom Trump has tasked with identifying government spending cuts – of pursuing a “dangerous political agenda.” Johnson predicted a rise in undetected cancers, reduced access to birth control, and an increase in sexually transmitted infections as a direct result of the funding cuts.

“President Trump and Elon Musk are pushing their dangerous political agenda, stripping health care access from people nationwide, and not giving a second thought to the devastation they will cause,” Johnson stated.

While conservatives have long opposed Planned Parenthood due to its abortion services, federal funding for abortions has been prohibited since 1977. The White House and the Department of Health and Human Services have not yet responded to requests for comment. An HHS spokesperson previously stated that the department is reviewing grant recipients to ensure compliance with President Trump’s executive orders.
