**New Delhi, April 1, 2025** – Motorists across India will be paying more to use national highways and expressways following a 4-5% average increase in toll charges, effective today. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) implemented the revised rates, a yearly adjustment tied to inflation as measured by the wholesale price index.

The hike affects approximately 855 toll plazas nationwide, including both publicly and privately operated facilities. Key routes impacted include the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, Eastern Peripheral Expressway, and Delhi-Jaipur Highway, among others. The NHAI notifies toll rate hikes for all national highways and expressways separately. This annual adjustment, mandated by the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008, ensures the maintenance and upkeep of the national highway network.
