Tue Apr 01 16:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Substack Launches TikTok-Style Video Feed Amidst Looming TikTok Ban

**New York, NY** – With the deadline for a potential TikTok ban looming, alternative platforms are scrambling to attract users. Substack, the popular subscription-based publishing platform, is the latest to join the fray, announcing a new TikTok-style video feed.

The update transforms Substack’s Media tab into a scrollable video feed, allowing creators to upload videos up to 10 minutes long. While initially accessible to subscribers, the videos will also serve as a discovery tool, enabling users to browse and find new creators.

This move comes as the 75-day deadline for the sale of TikTok’s US operations, mandated by the Trump administration, approaches on April 5th. While a sale hasn’t materialized, the possibility of a TikTok ban remains, leaving the door open for platforms like Substack to capitalize on potential user migration. Substack CEO Chris Best has even offered a $25,000 prize to creators who successfully bring TikTok users to the platform.

While Substack’s user base is significantly smaller than TikTok’s, the company boasts that 82% of its top-earning writers are already utilizing multimedia tools, indicating a growing interest in video content. The platform’s strategy appears to be focused on attracting higher-quality, niche content creators, rather than competing directly with TikTok’s vast and varied user-generated content. The long-term success of this strategy, however, remains to be seen.
