Tue Apr 01 02:44:29 UTC 2025: ## SpaceX Launches First-Ever Pole-to-Pole Private Space Mission

**Cape Canaveral, FL –** A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket successfully launched four private astronauts on a groundbreaking mission to orbit Earth from pole to pole on Monday, March 31, 2025. This novel trajectory marks a significant first in human spaceflight.

The mission, dubbed Fram2, is bankrolled and led by Maltese investor Chun Wang, a Chinese-born entrepreneur and founder of a bitcoin mining company. Accompanying Wang are three associates: Norwegian film director Jannicke Mikkelsen, German robotics researcher and polar scientist Rabea Rogge, and Australian adventurer Eric Philips.

The crew launched aboard SpaceX’s Crew Dragon capsule from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, embarking on a three-to-five-day free-flying mission. The astronauts will conduct 22 research experiments focused on the effects of spaceflight and microgravity on the human body.

This is SpaceX’s sixth private astronaut flight and further solidifies the company’s dominance in the burgeoning private spaceflight market. While previous private missions often catered to wealthy tourists, Fram2 is unique in its complete lack of government backing. The mission’s cost is estimated at roughly $220 million (based on $55 million per seat).

The launch comes amid SpaceX CEO Elon Musk’s growing influence as a close advisor to U.S. President Donald Trump. The Crew Dragon capsule, developed with NASA funding, is currently the only privately built spacecraft routinely conducting orbital missions.

The Fram2 mission represents a significant step forward for private space exploration, pushing the boundaries of human space travel and opening new avenues for scientific research.
