**NEW DELHI** – Priyansh Arya, a 24-year-old left-handed opening batsman and right-arm off-break bowler from Delhi, has become the latest sensation in Indian cricket after a stunning domestic season culminated in a lucrative IPL contract. Arya, whose parents are school teachers in Delhi, was picked up by the Punjab Kings for a hefty ₹3.8 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Arya’s rise to prominence followed exceptional performances in the Delhi Premier League (DPL). He notably scored 57 runs off 30 balls against Old Delhi 6 and 82 runs off 51 balls against Central Delhi Kings. His most impressive feat was a six-six in an over against North Delhi Strikers while playing for South Delhi Superstars, culminating in a 120-run knock off just 50 balls. He further cemented his reputation with a blistering 102 off 43 balls (including five fours and ten sixes) for Delhi in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Uttar Pradesh.
Despite being shortlisted for the IPL 2024 auction, Arya went unsold. However, his impressive DPL form propelled him into the spotlight, leading to his significant purchase in the 2025 auction. With 12 IPL matches already played in the 2025 season, Arya is one of several relatively unknown players showcasing the potential to break into the Indian national team in the future.
