Tue Apr 01 00:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Pelicans Shut Down Williamson and McCollum for the Season

**NEW ORLEANS, LA** – The New Orleans Pelicans have announced that star players Zion Williamson and C.J. McCollum will be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to injuries. Williamson is recovering from a low back bone contusion sustained on March 19th, while McCollum is dealing with a right foot bone contusion suffered on March 23rd.

This announcement comes as a significant blow to the struggling Pelicans, who currently hold a 20-55 record with only seven games left in the season. The team is already without Herb Jones, Dejounte Murray, and Trey Murphy III, all of whom suffered season-ending injuries earlier this year. The five players will collectively miss a total of 196 games this season.

Williamson, in his limited 30 games played, averaged 24.6 points, 7.2 rebounds (tying a career high), and 5.3 assists (a career high), including two triple-doubles. McCollum played 56 games, averaging 21.1 points and 4.1 assists, highlighting a 50-point game against the Washington Wizards and three other 40+ point performances.

Assistant coach James Borrego, who filled in for head coach Willie Green during Sunday’s game, described the season’s injury toll as unprecedented in his career. The Pelicans used their 42nd different starting lineup on Sunday, a testament to the team’s struggles this season. The team’s remaining games will provide opportunities for younger players to gain experience.
