Tue Apr 01 15:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Yankees Welcome Back Ottavino to the Bronx

**NEW YORK, NY –** The New York Yankees announced today the signing of veteran right-handed reliever Adam Ottavino to a Major League contract. The move reunites Ottavino with the Yankees, where he previously pitched from 2019-2020.

Ottavino, 39, spent the 2024 season with the New York Mets, posting a 4.34 ERA in 60 relief appearances. He excelled against right-handed batters, holding them to a .199 batting average. His impressive career includes 14 seasons in the Major Leagues, during which he’s compiled a 3.49 ERA, 46 saves, and 859 strikeouts. Over the last nine seasons, his durability and effectiveness have been notable, ranking among the league leaders in appearances and innings pitched.

The Yankees acquired Ottavino after he opted out of a minor league contract with the Boston Red Sox. To make room for Ottavino on the 40-man roster, the Yankees transferred right-handed pitcher JT Brubaker to the 60-day injured list and placed right-handed pitcher Devin Williams on the paternity list. Ottavino will immediately join the active roster. The New York native, originally drafted by St. Louis in 2006, returns to the team where he famously became the first player to wear number 0.
